"I'm talking about that state between dream reality and waking reality, about how sensitive and open you are to new things at that point.
`Rock is more than just music-bound or sex-bound. It cuts through to more, it awakens certain ideas, opens up the imagination.
In a way it's one long search for what isn't immediately obvious. You can connect with that by taking acid, I suppose, though I haven't.
I try to do it through songwriting. I don't think, 'God, this is an important song.'
It's more like a painting, a work in progress that takes shape bit by bit, and you don't realize what it means until it's finished."
