Spaceball Ricochet - alternate mix w/ Happy Birthday intro bit [Studio]

"The night before the session in which I recorded ?Bouquets, Wreaths & Laurels? for the ?Urban Urbane? album, the drummer, Steve Priest and I spent the night watching old T Rex videos at my house. Inspired, we worked up a version of this song with the idea of possibly recording it the next day if time allowed. We had the great bassist Danny Thompson playing with us on the session and we nailed ?Bouquets? in two takes.

A conversation ensued in which I asked Danny about all the musicians he had played with ( Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, Richard Thompson etc. ) and he remarked that one of his favorites was Marc Bolan. I had no idea that he had played with Bolan but it turned out that they were very close friends and Danny had played with Tyrannosaurus Rex. I looked at Steve and he, like me, was smiling! I told Danny about our idea to have a crack at ?Spaceball? and asked him if he would be into playing on it. He said:?Absolutely anything for Marc, mate!? And what?s more, I don?t want any money for it either. This one will be for love.? We got it in one live take. "
