"That song resulted from a lot of ideas, all coming together and being sparked off by a magazine called New Woman. 'New Woman Is an Attitude', in fact, is part of the blurb on the spine.
A lot of the headlines from the front page just went straight into that song. Lines like 'If You Want to Dress to Impress' about power dressing. And there were the ads, like the one for Paloma Picasso's perfume. That got me thinking about her father. There's a line in the song 'Will your perfume betray your past?/ Paloma Picasso.' As well as a perfume betraying someone's past because it leaves a lingering fragrance after they're gone, I also thought of it as being something of a betrayal of her father's integrity.
But I also find a part of all that very seductive, which is what it's meant to be. I find the images used in those adverts for perfume and haute couture seductive."
